Baked Egg Custard with Cheese and Herbs Recipe

This quiche-like Baked Egg Custard with Cheese and Herbs is delicious! Bake in batches-holds well, but long baking time. Variations of cheese/herbs has potential. Tried the Smoked Gouda this morning and everyone thought it was outstanding. Might also try cheddar with basil/parsley.


  • 2C coarsely grated Cheese such as Gruyere or Smoked Gouda
  • ½ C Chopped Chives
  • 10 eggs
  • 1.5 C whole milk
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4t grated nutmeg
  • Hollandaise for topping


  1. Sprinkle Gruyere and chives evenly into buttered shallow baking dish
  2. Blend eggs, milk, cream cheese, and nutmeg in blender with 1/2t pepper and 1/4t salt till smooth. Pour over Gruyere and chives and bake until puffed, set, and golden-350F for 35-45 minutes. Serve warm topped with Hollandaise or at room temp.
