After spending months at home, are you ready to get away for a few days to enjoy the fresh country air? We understand! The question is, where can you go to enjoy nature’s bounty, luxurious accommodations, and genuine hospitality? All while maintaining social distancing? Our Castle in the Country Bed & Breakfast Inn is truly the ideal location to staycation safely in Michigan’s great outdoors. The Castle is perfectly situated on 65 secluded acres with a private lake in the Allegan County countryside. You and your special someone can walk, bike, kayak, paddle, and explore until your heart’s content without ever leaving the property.
Explore Michigan by Bicycle
Whether you bring your own bicycles or rent our fat-tire bicycles, you’ll find an abundance of trails to traverse during your Michigan staycation. In case you’re wondering, fat-tire bicycles are exactly what the name implies – bicycles with fat tires that allow for riding on any terrain, which is perfect for our 65 acres of wooded trails. We have two fat-tire bikes available on site for you to rent during your stay. Better yet, take advantage of our Fat Bikes are Fun package. When added to the room or suite of your choice for any 2 or more night’s stay, you’ll receive the following enhancements.
- 2-hour fat bike rental to be used on site (extended for no extra charge based on availability)
- 2 free Castle in the Country logo water bottles
- 1-hour couple’s side-by-side massage
- Picnic basket (includes bottle of local wine or sparkling juice) to enjoy anywhere on site or in your room
If you bring your own bicycles, you can venture off site to tour Michigan’s great outdoors. Not to be missed is the beloved Kal-Haven Trail. A former railroad bed linking Kalamazoo to South Haven, the 33-mile trail offers plenty of picture-worthy resting stops. You’ll cross bridges, pass through small towns, and see historic points of interest. The end of the trail in South Haven will reward you with stunning views of the great Lake Michigan. Be sure to stop for some refreshing ice cream at family-owned, Sherman Dairy Bar. The most challenging part will be choosing from their 53 locally-made ice cream flavors. Or try Kilwin’s Chocolates, renowned for their original recipe ice cream, handmade chocolates, and Mackinac Island-style fudge.
Here at the Inn, Herb is an avid road bike rider and randonneur, and he loves to share his passion with others. So, before you hit the road, be sure to ask him for tips for the best routes.
Enjoy the Great Outdoors by Kayak or Paddle Boat
Another benefit of staying at Castle in the Country is having access to our private Lake Emerson. Surrounded by little more than lush green trees and wildlife, you will relish the experience in our complimentary on-site kayaks or paddle boat. Just imagine watching the sunrise or sunset on the lake as you listen to the water lapping and the birds chirping. It simply soothes the soul.
After a day spent in Michigan’s great outdoors, return to the Inn to enjoy our outdoor fireplace or relax in your luxurious and comfortable guest room. Dinner is also available for guests staying at least two nights (a la carte menu) or as part of our Celebration package. Of course, in the morning you will enjoy a delicious breakfast made with fresh, local ingredients from nearby farms and food purveyors. For gluten-free, vegetarian and other food restrictions, please contact us prior to your visit. Make your reservations now and staycation safely in Michigan’s great outdoors at the Castle!
