OVAL BEACH
Oval Beach is a top-rated oasis just 40 scenic minutes from our Inn in Saugatuck, MI. You can enjoy this magnificent and popular beach during the day with all the sun-loving crowd, or if you want to experience a completely different ambiance — why not walk the beach in the evening and watch the water peacefully ripple? Guests also love the challenge of hiking up the famous Mount Baldhead and viewing the amazing dunes.
Before setting out on your beach adventure, make sure you’re prepared! Stop at the Farmhouse Deli for a great lunch. From salads to gourmet sandwiches to delicious desserts, the Deli has something for everyone. Bonus — it’s close to both Oval and Douglas Beaches.
DOUGLAS BEACH
Visit Douglas Beach, a serene lake shore beach in Douglas, MI, for a more private setting. It’s the perfect place to bring a picnic lunch, as picnic tables and grills are available for use. After a peaceful picnic or a quick bite to eat in their charming downtown, we recommend enjoying the sunset while taking a romantic walk.
WESTSIDE COUNTY PARK
Westside County Park is just over half an hour’s drive from the Castle and consists of 11 acres of soft sand and crystal blue water views. With gorgeous landscapes and covered pavilions, this is the best place to watch the sunset over Lake Michigan. Just 15 minutes away, you will find Salt of the Earth, a breathtaking, rustic restaurant focusing solely on local and organic ingredients. Salt of the Earth is a favorite dinner destination among guests. It is open for dinner Sunday-Thursday (check for current hours of operation) from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday-Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
SOUTH BEACH
South Beach is located just 38 minutes from the Castle in South Haven, MI. With the historic lighthouse and world-famous Maritime Museum, the history here is a must-see. End your day with a refreshing dip in the lake, a specialty cocktail from Clementine, or a martini and small plate from Taste. You won’t regret it.
HOLLAND STATE PARK
Holland State Park, located an hour from our bed and breakfast, is well worth the drive. Famous for its expansive sandy beaches, Holland State Park is the perfect place to enjoy a full beach day. During the day, volleyball courts and great fishing spots are available for use. Plus, there are tons of fun activities available all around the beach, whether it be renting beach gear, savoring good food, or going on fun tours. Of course, end your perfect day at the beach, watching the gorgeous sunset.
When you’re ready to head back to the Castle, we recommend taking one more stop at New Holland Brewing Company. A local brew and a growler to go will end the day with the perfect ambiance as you settle in by one of our outdoor fireplaces.
TUNNEL PARK
Tunnel Park is a popular 22-acre park also about an hour from the Castle and is best known for its ideal beaches for swimming and sunbathing. With unparalleled views of Lake Michigan, you can’t go wrong with spending the day here. Make your way back to the Castle after your day in the sun and enjoy a glass of wine in the gazebo. Does it get any better than that?
