Perfect Fall Day Trip in Southwest MI

As the leaves change colors right outside the windows of Castle in the Country Bed & Breakfast, our Innkeepers are busy helping our guests enjoy a perfect fall day-trip in Southwest MI. These activities are just a few of the many suggestions we provide to our guests. Come out to the country to experience your own celebration of the ever-changing fall foliage season.

Apple Picking in Southwest Michigan

What’s a better way to spend a brilliant fall day than to go apple picking with your favorite person? There are many fabulous orchards in the area, such as Crane’s Orchard. Visit Crane’s U-Pick to hand-pick your favorite variety of apples. You’ll enjoy taking home some local Michigan fall fruit as a souvenir of your stay.  Located only 20-25 minutes from our B&B, this rural setting is a delight for everyone.

Check out Crane’s website for their hours and seasonal schedule of what’s available. Crane’s also features a wonderful Corn Maze where you can lose yourselves in a labyrinth of cornstalks. Once you find your way out, fuel up at Crane’s Restaurant and Pie Pantry. The restaurant is full of antique farmhouse character and comfort food, perfect for a lunch spot. Browse the Pie Pantry for delicious homemade baked goods, like dumplings, donuts, and fresh pie. Wash it all down with some sweet apple cider.

Wine Tasting at Southwest Michigan Wineries

After filling up at Crane’s, spend some time in Michigan wine country. Explore the area’s award-winning wines as you sip and savor a variety of flavors just down the road at Fenn Valley Winery or Virtue Cider.

We love supporting our local winery, Fenn Valley, all year long, but there’s just something about fall that makes visiting their beautiful vineyard for a tasting especially worthwhile. We’ll give you a coupon for FREE logo glasses when you purchase a bottle of wine. Just speak to one of our innkeepers who are always ready to assist.

Sign up for Fenn Valley’s extended fall vineyard tours each weekend in October or their Harvest Winemaker’s Dinner served only on select dates. Seating is limited so reserve early.

Virtue Cider is a buzz worthy addition to our growing list of the area’s sip and savor spots. Located within a ½ mile of Fenn Valley Winery, visit their tasting room to discover why their European-style hard cider is so unique and appealing. Their hard cider options range from the extra tart Sidra De Nava to the rich bourbon-barrel-aged Mitten.

Exceptional Dining at Salt of the Earth in Fennville MI

Before you head back to the Castle, stop for dinner at the area’s most talked about local restaurant, Salt of the Earth.

“Salt” is often mentioned as our guest’s favorite restaurant. In fact, many of our guests choose to return there to dine several nights during their stay. It’s that good! Salt’s rustic farm-to-table atmosphere fits in well with the spirit of fall in Southwest Michigan. Check out our Events page where we’ll keep you informed about their concert schedule. Or visit their website to purchase tickets directly for live music on the Salt stage.
